Battersea Power Station

The demolition of the west waterhouses and old pumping station from this well known London landmark involved removal both of plant and structures as well as the extensive asbestos contamination in the form of roof and pipe work cladding.

The project also included protection of live steam lines and other services immediately adjacent to demoltion work at high level. After demolition, contaminated ground was removed, levels reduced and a new sub-station constructed.

Testing for lead content, heavy metals, oil and other contaminants were also undertaken. Overall works package included:

  • Asbestos removal in the form of roof cladding, AIB and pipework lagging
  • Demolition of west waterhouses, old pumping station with associated plant and many other structures – the clean hardcore arisings were left on site for future client use
  • Works included the perimeter protection to live steam lines and other services immediately adjacent to high level demolition
  • Post demolition in some areas there was a contaminated ground dig / level reduction and construction sub-station
  • Metals and ground were tested for lead content, heavy metals, oil and other contaminants
