8-10 Hanover Street, London

Situated adjacent Hanover Square and undertaken alongside the Crossrail works to Hanover Square, this challenging demolition and enabling works project consisting of various buildings up to 6 stories, was carried out within the tight confines of a site with numerous individual Party Wall Awards.

Acting as Principal Contractor, the works included soft-strip and asbestos removal followed by careful dismantling and demolition techniques utilising mini and midi 360° excavators. Hand demolition and diamond saw cutting was employed on structures abutting third party properties as well as the installation of extensive Party Wall temporary works and weatherproofing.

Temporary works included high-level horizontal walings and basement level steel raking props on new concrete thrust blocks. The entire site perimeter was underpinned to significant depths in order to allow a reduce level dig to be undertaken and the subsequent installation of a concrete sub-base to receive a raft foundation.

In order to avoid any disturbance to the busy Hanover Street frontage, all arisings were removed from site through a restricted rear mews out onto a one-way side street.

These exceptionally challenging works were completed whilst accommodating the evolving design development for the overall redevelopment thus ensuring an efficient commencement for the follow-on Main Contractor.

We have recently been awarded a 2013 Considerate Constructors Scheme National Site Award for works undertaken at 8-10 Hanover Street. Such recognition is the result of hard work and dedication by our Project Management Team to improve our approach to community and neighbourly liaison.
